Building on the 5-point scale, Kari has written a workbook for adolescents and young adults called A 5 Is Against the Law! The book was developed for youth who have difficulty understanding social boundaries and who might inadvertently step over those boundaries.

There is a section devoted to anxiety and how to cope with this emotion before it begins to escalate. Ideas for using the anxiety curve are included. Throughout the book, readers are encouraged to think about and create their own individualized scales related to specific topics.

The book uses a direct and simple style with examples and hands-on activities. The 5-point scale involves taking a social or emotional concept and breaking it into 5 parts to make it easier to understand the different degrees of social behavior. The approach makes use of a systematic method to teach difficult and often frustrating social information.

This book is designed to be used in 1:1 teaching or with small groups.
