Looking for the complete collection? Check out the Superflex Series All-In-One Bundle.

Please Note: Superflex posters are not included in this bundle and are sold separately. If you’re working with younger students, consider also teaching the We Thinkers! Series to provide instruction on foundational social concepts. Then, move on to the Superflex Series.

IMPORTANT: These products are designed to be taught in somewhat of an order by first teaching social observation from the child's perspective (You Are a Social Detective!: Book 1 in the Superflex Series) before teaching from the Superflex curriculum. Avoid teaching kids to simply “control their behavior,” as this is not the purpose of these materials. See the products included in this bundle and the order in which to teach them below.

Social Emotional Self-Regulation: Why It Doesn't Involve a Behavior Plan | Dec 2023

Author(s): Michelle Garcia Winner, MA, CCC-SLP

Self-regulation and behavior control using behavior plans are two very different ideas. The term "self-regulation” has a bit of a bad reputation in that people often use it to describe a way to impose behavior control. But as the term implies, regulation in this way comes from oneself, one’s inner tools, and strategies. Conversely, behavior plans are developed outside of the individual by others and are meant to shape pro-social or eliminate unwanted behaviors. While there may be valid reasons and times to develop behavior plans, we argue that teaching concepts around social emotional learning, social emotional self-regulation, and executive functioning should not be one of those times.
