Part 2 of this two-part series focuses on teaching tools available for social learners across differing developmental ages. Attendees will discuss treatment pathways for younger students and how these needs transform and change with developmental age and evolving social emotional self-regulatory expectations.

Series Name: Individualizing Social Emotional Learning and Treatment Decision Making

Please note that this course begins promptly at 9:00 am Pacific Time. A six-step treatment decision making template is explored for use by parents and professionals (interventionists) to help them individualize and update social emotional treatment services across time. In this course we’ll also explore three different ways the interventionist can use the Social Thinking® Methodology to better understand their students’ social learning needs and help them develop metacognitive strategies to increase their social competencies as they seek to navigate within the complex social world.

Who should attend

The social world is complicated—and social emotional learners need different types of socially based information and strategies based on the level of their social learning and their developmental age. In Part 1 of this two-part series, we explore a unique six-step decision making template to guide individualized treatment* planning for those who have begun to use different aspects of our Social Thinking® Methodology.


Central to individualizing treatment planning is to avoid assumptions about what we think social learners understand and why they behave the way they do in social situations. To demystify our students’ needs, we begin by explaining key conceptual frameworks as a way to help interventionists explore more objectively a social learner’s current social competencies and social learning needs.


The methodology also has within it a wide range of treatment frameworks that can be used in isolation or with other frameworks to address different types of social learning needs. This course covers a large variety of information, including but not limited to:


  • Unpacking and practice using the Six Steps for Treatment Decision Making Template
  • Exploring three foundational categories for use in treatment planning and when working with social learners:
    • Tools to explore how your social learner is currently functioning in the social world to plan relevant treatment lessons
    • Treatment frameworks to teach how the social world works
    • Treatment frameworks to guide students to learn how to navigate to self-regulate in the social world
  • Exploring how treatment frameworks and strategies can be used in unison to develop different aspects of social emotional learning
  • Time for Q & A

*Treatment refers to using conceptual and strategy-based frameworks to help individuals improve their social competencies.


Building on this course, Part 2 provides information on specific use of treatment tools for different developmental ages. Then we explore longitudinal treatment journeys using our treatment decision making template with two different social learners. The first explores four years of treatment with a girl starting at four years old and how teaching her how the social world works helped her to learn how to work in the social world. The second treatment journey centers on a gifted 13-year-old girl with a history of school phobia and social emotional and executive function learning challenges. Time will be saved at the end of the course for Q & A. Please continue with Part 2: Teaching Different Developmental Ages—Who Needs What When?

The Social Thinking® Methodology provides a large array of treatment frameworks and concepts to guide interventionists (parents and professionals) in how to promote social emotional learning about how the social world works to become more competent navigating and self-regulating within it. In this two-part online series, attendees will explore the use of a six-step decision making template to define and update the treatment planning, as well as learn how to combine different treatment frameworks and concepts within our methodology to promote individualized social emotional learning across different developmental ages.

Immediately following the livestream course, an email will be sent with a questionnaire to verify your attendance. If you did, you will be asked to fill out the course evaluation. Upon submitting that back to our office, we will send a follow-up email providing you with further links to access Certificate of Attendance and CE certificates or forms. You will receive a separate email for each course day you registered to attend. An online form will be available to SLPs at that time to submit their ASHA info to claim ASHA CEUs.

 

 

Recorded Livestream Events Accessing Certificates of Attendance and/or CE certificate(s)
Following the expiration of the recording, we will send an email with a questionnaire. If you watched the recorded content, please fill out the questionnaire and survey. We will then send the follow-up email with the Certificate of Attendance. An online form will be available to SLPs at that time to submit their ASHA info to claim ASHA CEUs.


Remember, mental health professionals can only receive CE credit if they watched the live version of the courses. The recorded copy is not eligible for mental health CE credit.
